The Doctor Behind
Dr. Marcela Perez Acosta, MD
I was born and raised in Culiacán, México. I am the youngest of four children, both of my parents were teachers however, ever since I was a young child I always dreamed about becoming a doctor. I obtained my medical degree from Universidad Autonoma de Sinaloa in August 2009 after which I moved to Pennsylvania to complete the required licensing examinations to practice medicine in the United States. I completed Internal Medicine residency in June 2014. During residency I had the opportunity to participate in quality improvement projects and presentations of interesting medical cases that were presented in local and national conferences. I received the Senior Resident Teaching award as well as Senior resident of the year in 2014. After graduation I worked as a hospitalist in Pennsylvania prior to moving to Florida for my husband’s job. I worked for the UCF/HCA Internal Medicine Residency Program in Orlando, FL for 2 years prior to starting my Rheumatology Fellowship in July 2019. During my fellowship training I was able to care for numerous patients in Central Florida.
